Brian Winter

Founder

Brian Winter

Bio

Brian is the founder of Pyxl, where he has been focused on using his experience in digital marketing to advise the Pyxl team. He is an experienced sales and marketing executive that has turned around global sales and marketing teams for Fortune 500 companies as well as built sales and marketing teams for venture-backed technology start-ups.


A California native, Brian previously served as Vice President, Global Virtualization Software Sales at Sun Microsystems, a $20 billion Fortune 500 information technology company. He was also Vice President, Services Marketing at Sun Microsystems. Prior to Sun Microsystems, Brian oversaw sales and marketing at venture-backed SevenSpace, and prior to that he served in various senior marketing and management roles at USWeb Corporation.

 

Brian is actively involved in the technology community and participates as an investor and advisor to technology companies and emerging businesses including Board-level participation and CEO advisory services. He has also acted as a spokesperson in the high technology industry and has presented on a wide variety of information technology-related topics in over 20 countries worldwide.


Brian resides in Knoxville with his wife Courtney, their three daughters, Riley, Hannah and Campbell and their Weimaraner, Sugar. He is an avid runner and enjoys combining his running interests with traveling. Brian has had the opportunity to travel and run at some amazing venues worldwide including the Great Wall of China. He has completed 13 marathons in 10 states and is focused on reaching his goal of running a marathon in all 50 states.

Josh Phillips

Josh Phillips

Bio

Josh is the President of Pyxl, where he oversees day-to-day operations while also leading strategy and campaign management (among many other things). He is a Michigan native transplanted to Tennessee where he stayed after graduating from Maryville College with degrees in International Business and Political Science. Prior to joining the Pyxl team, Josh led a number of international engagements throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Australia, exploring a variety of fields - from research to program development and strategy work.

What's your favorite social network and why? Twitter. It's easy to access, easy to search, and you can do it on the spur of the moment. It has a clean interface, and most of all, you can learn a lot on it.


When you're not at Pyxl, where can we find you? At home cooking or watching a movie. On the best of nights it starts with cooking and ends with watching a movie.


What's your favorite food? Caesar salad with grilled salmon on top or bruschetta...maybe both.


What's your favorite city and why? Luzern, Switzerland. It has gorgeous views, good restaurants and shopping, but it is a place you can visit, relax and not feel like you are in a rush to get somewhere and do something.


What's something people may not know about you? I have been to every continent but Antarctica - but want to get there as well.

Kervie Mata

Bio

Kervie is Pyxl's Art Director, where he handles all senior-level design work. As a cross-media artist, Kervie has brought a diverse style to our print and digital projects. After graduating from West Virginia University with a BFA in Graphic Design, Kervie joined Blaine Turner Advertising, Inc. in Morgantown, WV as the head publication and concept designer for West Virginia University Athletics. His work won awards from the College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA) for multiple sports publications. Kervie has also garnered Addy Awards for his work with Carpathia Hosting, The Consumer Electronics Association, Pilot Flying J, Bobcat, The University of Tennessee Bands, and of course the Pyxl website. His logo designs were selected to be a part of Logo Lounge's Master Library Series, an international publication featuring the world's best logo designs. Recently, his work with Kyoo has been recognized on Mashable's Spark of Genius Series as an up-and-coming social media platform and on CNN's 50 New Tech Tools You Should Know About.

What's your favorite social network and why? Twitter. It's a very resourceful tool for keeping up with design and technology.


When you're not at Pyxl, where can we find you? At a comic book store, playing video games or oogling at several electronic items at Best Buy.


What's your favorite food? Brownies, followed closely by Gin and Tonic.


What's your favorite city and why? Morgantown, WV. Nothing beats waking up to the football game day atmosphere.

 

What's something people may not know about you? I have this crazy burning desire to be a political cartoonist.

Bio

Nicole is a digital communications specialist at Pyxl, where she handles public relations and communications initiatives and manages the PR internship program. She is a New Jersey native and a University of Tennessee graduate, where she majored in public relations and minored in psychology. Prior to joining Pyxl, Nicole worked at Ackermann PR. A social media addict, Nicole co-founded the Knoxville Chapter of the Social Media Club and currently leads the planning committee. She is also the lead organizer of both Knoxville Twestival and Social Slam. As a recent bride, Nicole also runs a popular wedding and lifestyle blog, The Plunge Project.

What's your favorite social network and why? Professionally, I love Twitter because it's such a useful tool for finding information and interesting articles, but personally, I'm obsessed with Pinterest and could spend all day "pinning" DIY projects, recipes and other eye candy!


When you're not at Pyxl, where can we find you? Blogging, doing one of the many random DIY projects I tend to take on, or simply relaxing at home with my husband Michael and our two pit bulls, Shelby and Link.


What's your favorite food? Definitely sushi!


What's your favorite city and why? It's a toss-up between NYC, where I spent a lot of my free time when I lived in Jersey, or Fort Lauderdale, which I love for its laid-back atmosphere and proximity to Miami.

Bio

Brenna is a digital marketing specialist at Pyxl, where she manages social media and online advertising initiatives. In addition, Brenna handles business development for Kyoo, Pyxl's social media aggregation product that pulls in all the buzz around a topic or event from popular social media sites and displays it in one place. Brenna is a Chicago native and a University of Tennessee graduate with a degree in Business Administration and a concentration in Marketing. She is also an active member of the Knoxville community, as co-founder and vice president of Social Media Club Knoxville and a committee member of the American Diabetes Association's East Tennessee Region's marketing/communications team.

Bio

Creed is the technology lead at Pyxl, where he manages web development efforts, handles technical setups and leads the development team. He began doing freelance web design while in high school and studied both Computer Science and Psychology at the University of Tennessee. Before joining the Pyxl team, Creed worked at U30 Group, Inc., where he programmed and developed platforms for online communities for the purpose of market research. Creed has played a major part in many consumer insights research projects for companies such as Coca Cola, Starbucks, Nike, ESPN, and MillerCoors.

What's your favorite social network and why? Stumbleupon, because searching the internet for fun takes mental energy you just don't have to waste!


When you're not at Pyxl, where can we find you? Hanging out with friends, on the lake, watching sports, by a grill, playing some kind of game - or all of these at the same time.


What's your favorite food? Chicken wings or anything with buffalo sauce.


What's your favorite city and why? Savannah, GA - It's where I was born! Plus I like Spanish moss and the beach.

Franny Priestley

Bio

Franny is the senior graphic designer at Pyxl, where she brings a fresh approach to our design team. One of the only Knoxville-born Pyxlites, Franny graduated from Pellissippi State Technical Community College with a degree in Communication Graphics. She is now a member of the Advisory Board for Pellissippi's design department. Previously, she worked with the Marketing and Communications department of the University of Tennessee's Institute of Agriculture. In addition to working at Pyxl, Franny exercises her design and music skills in her church, Cornerstone Church of Knoxville.

What's your favorite social network and why? Pinterest is quickly becoming my favorite! Talk about inspiration overload… It's a great way to spark design ideas.


When you're not at Pyxl, where can we find you? Most likely fumbling my way through some new recipe in our apartment, or if the weather's good, fly fishing with my husband Joe.


What's your favorite food? Cottage cheese and pineapple. Best snack of all time.


What's your favorite city and why? I can't get past Spokane, Washington. Maybe it's the greenway winding through the pines behind my grandparents' house. Maybe it's the Milk Bottle or the Rocket Bakery. Maybe it's the fact that a river runs right through the middle of the city. Spokane is just a charming place!


What's something people may not know about you? Most people are surprised when I tell them I was homeschooled up until high school. At least, I hope they're surprised.

Chase is a web developer at Pyxl, where he is responsible for advancing dynamic websites, content management systems and mobile development. Chase advocates to bring the best of technology to every project he touches. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a BFA in Graphic Design. Prior to joining Pyxl, Chase worked at U30 Group, where he developed online solutions for both quantitative and qualitative market research projects. Chase has contributed to consumer insights research projects for companies such as MillerCoors, Starbucks, Burger King, Nickelodeon and Southwest Airlines.

Wes is a web developer at Pyxl, where he is responsible for using a variety of platforms, content management systems and custom development techniques to build dynamic websites for our clients. A Knoxville native, Wes studied Visual Communications in college, which provided the design foundation to pair with his passion and skill in web development. When he’s not at Pyxl, you can often find him volunteering at Powell Church, where he assists with a variety of technical tasks.

Jerod is an East Tennessee native and a graduate of Carson-Newman College, with majors in Computer Science and Mathematics and a minor in Physics. Before joining Pyxl, Jerod worked at JTEKT Automotive as a Network Support Specialist, specializing in program development and support while also providing network administration. In addition, Jerod has years of experience as a freelance web developer and programmer.

Ramona joined Pyxl in January 2011, assuming responsibilities for accounting and finance. She is a Knoxville native and a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a Bachelors of Science in Accounting. Upon graduation, Ramona worked as a Senior Auditor for KPMG Peat Marwick in Knoxville. Subsequently, she was Finance Director for Turner Broadcasting in Atlanta, Finance and Accounting Director for Compaq Computer Corporation in Houston and Finance and Accounting Director for Alta Vista Corporation in Irvine, CA, before returning to Knoxville in 2001.

Eric is the General Manager of Pyxl's Tempe office, where he oversees day-to-day operations while also leading Pyxl's growth in the west. Eric brings an extensive background of managing advertising efforts for innovative clients such as Chipotle Mexican Grill, TaylorMade Golf, Toshiba and Hilton Resorts. He has a proven knack for developing creative solutions for his clients that break through the clutter of the competitive noise. Originally hailing from the suburbs of Detroit, Eric attended the University of Arizona, gaining a degree in Media Arts and a minor in Marketing. When he isn’t hanging out with his family, you can usually find him on the road, training for his next marathon.

Bio

Dereck is a senior graphic designer in Pyxl's Tempe office, where he brings a unique, creative perspective to the team. After graduating from the Art Institute of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design, Dereck created the first issues of azTeen Magazine and was awarded an ADDY for the Delete Tattoo Removal campaign. Since then, he has expanded his style and creativity to a wide range of industries in both B2B and B2C markets. When he's not at Pyxl, he's exploring new music or spending time with family and friends.
